Destination Review: Phillip Island, Australia

With summer on the way many people take time off work to enjoy some of the beautiful weather ahead. Whether your going away for Christmas, New Year’s or just for the sake of it you can pretty much find any place around Australia to spend your time away – For me it’s Phillip Island in Victoria.

Under 2-hours’ drive from Victoria’s Capital, Melbourne. Phillip Island is one of Australia’s popular destinations during summer and of course all year round due to the penguins that live ashore on the Island.

The island is buzzing during the months of December to January and there are heaps of attractions in this period to enjoy. One of my favourites is the Cowes Night Market that is on every fortnight along The Esplanade and offers heaps of stalls full of food, jewellery, arts ‘n’ crafts, cooking supplies and much more!

If you’re into beaches then you’re in luck, from the calm waters of Western Port Bay to the fun thrill waves of the Bass Strait. Many people also like to jump of the Cowes Jetty and swim to shore, it’s not recommended but it’s an Island tradition in this town.

15-minute drive from the town of Cowes is the Phillip Island Grand Circuit, it features a museum of history for motorsport and a Go-Kart track that is mini replica of the main track.

Animal lovers will enjoy visiting the Phillip Island Wild Life Park, the park is cage free for you to get up and close with Kangaroos, Emus and Wallaby’s which you can even feed with the food provided. The Penguin Parade is famous for its fairy penguins coming ashore to there homes build along the island, watch the sunset from the beach whilst little penguins waddle towards you.

For all those nature lovers nothing beats the views of The Nobbies, the area offers coastal views from the boardwalks of the natural sea bird gardens. One and a half kilometres offshore from The Nobbies are Seal Rocks which is home to Australia’s largest Fur Seal colony.

As you drive into the island from the town of San Remo you’ll spot the Phillip Island Chocolate Factory, a great attraction to get your sugar fix. Another great place to visit is A Maze’N Things, a family fun attraction that include Mini Golf, Sky Trail, Mazes and Illusions.

Got a love for fishing? Then the town of Rhyll is for you. Boats can be hired here to go out to sea and if you’re lucky you might just see a cruise ship docking.

If your consider coming here during this period you will not be disappointed. Any further questions regarding Phillip Island is available  at www.visitphillipisland.com or don’t hesitate to contact me.

Safe Travels,
