Hotel Review: Crown Metropol Melbourne

Being able to review a hotel in my home town is quite exciting, especially being one of the most liveable cities in the world – Melbourne.

My weekend away in the city was with family and friends so my activities were different to what I normally do when I am alone traveling. We chose to stay at the luxurious Crown Metropol in Southbank. The hotel is located near Crown Towers and is part of Crown Entertainment Complex.

The Metropol is the newest addition to Crown’s Resorts in Melbourne. The hotel has a modern décor with a range selection of rooms including: Luxe King or Twin, City Luxe, Urban Luxe, Loft and their signature room “The Apartment”.

During my stay we were allocated a Luxe Twin Room which featured:

  • High definition LCD television
  • Complimentary wireless internet access
  • iPod docking station
  • The latest in-room movies and cable television channels
  • Mini bar and refrigerator
  • Oversized shower
  • Individually controlled air-conditioning
  • Tea and coffee making facilities
  • Desk and lamp
  • 2 VoIP phones including in room technology desk phone providing real- time updates and connectivity to various services through a colour LCD touch screen

Check-In time is at 2pm, so before checking in we headed to the shopping district just a short walk from the reception which features such brands as:  Seed, Mimco, G-Star, SABA & Peter Alexander.

Before heading out for the night we headed to happy hour at Mr. Hives Kitchen and Bar which is located on the 1st floor of the Metropol. Drinks are reasonable priced but when you head down for happy hour you’ll find some specials on drinks.

Crown’s Entertainment Complex has a huge range of high-class dining, premium restaurants and casual café’s. The Merrywell Restaurant and Burger Bar was on everyone’s mind for dinner. This Cosmopolitan venue features 2 floors with city views featuring an American diner cuisine.

The following night it we booked in at San Antone by Bludso’s BBQ. Inspired flavours by American chef Kevin Bludso, this exclusive Crown restaurant features smokehouse meats, delicious sides and signature cocktails.

Heading into the CBD from Crown Metropol is extremely easy but for the most reliable way is catching a Tram – Melbourne has one of the most extensive tram network in the world and travels to all parts of the city.

Get on the 96 Tram outside the hotel (stop 125 – Clarendon Street) towards East Brunswick and hop off at Bourke Street Mall, the trip is 5 stops away and only takes 10 minutes. Here you can find a huge selection of boutique shops, department stores, high-end luxury brands and Australian\International retail chains. You can’t visit Melbourne and not head to the famous arcades near Bourke Street Mall – The cities best secrets for great coffee, sweets, cafes and markets.
